February 23, 2021The Mission of the State of Palestine wanted to draw your attention to the unlawful killing of Ali Abu Alia, a 14 year old boy from Al Mughair village near Ramallah. Ali was shot on Friday by live fire from an Israeli military squad.
Following his critical injury, the child was rushed to Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah and was immediately placed for surgery. However, attempts at resuscitation all failed and the child was pronounced dead.
His death has provoked widespread condemnation from Palestine and among the international community.
President Mahmoud Abbas and Prime Minister Dr Mohammed Shtayyeh both condemned the killing with Dr Shtayyeh saying
“The martyrdom of 13-year-old Ali Ayman Abu-Alayya from al-Mughayir village is a new crime added to the occupation’s long record.“Israel continues to target our old and young people, trees, stones, and everything that is Palestinian. May Ali’s soul rest in eternal peace”
UN Special Coordinator for the Middle east Peace Process, Nicolay Mladenov said
“Appalled by the killing of a 15 year old Palestinian boy, Ali Abu Alaya, near Ramallah today. Israel must swiftly and independently investigate this shocking and unacceptable incident. Children enjoy special protection under international law and must be protected from violence”
The Office of the European Union Representative in West Bank & Gaza Strip said
“14 year old child Ali Abu Alia was killed yesterday in Al Mughair village near Ramallah. Children enjoy special protection under international law. How many more Palestinian children will be subject to the excessive use of lethal force by the Israeli security forces? Extending our heartfelt condolences to Ali’s parents and family. This shocking incident must be swiftly and fully investigated by the Israeli authorities in order to bring the perpetrators to justice”
