Briefing: Rights Group Calls on Israel to Release Palestinian Political Prisoners
March 31, 2020The Mission of the State of Palestine would like to share this report with you, released by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS), the Palestinian Water Authority (PWA) and the Palestinian Meteorological Department (PMD) to mark World Water Day on 22 March.
The report highlights that the Israeli occupation authority controls more than 85 per cent of the Palestinian water sources in the occupied territories.
- The per capita average of 87 litres per day of water consumption in the West Bank and Gaza Strip is below the internationally recommended level
- Palestinian cities are forced to purchase water from the Israeli water company, Mekorot.
- Ground water sources and access to the Jordan river is controlled by Israelis.
- More than 97% of the water pumped from the coastal aquifer in Gaza Strip does not meet the water quality standards of the World Health Organization.
