March 15, 2021Palestinian women and girls are suffering from widespread and systematic violations and denials of their rights, including the rights to life, health, education and self-determination and severe limitations of freedom of movement.
Here are some figures from 2020:
- 176 women and 51 girls were injured by Israeli forces
- 133 women and girls arbitrarily detained
- 37 women currently in Israeli custody, some held without trial or charges
- Palestinian women live in fear of having their home demolished – 728 demolitions occurred last year displacing 1,128 Palestinians, 255 of whom were women and 523 children
The only way to improve the lives of Palestinian women and girls is to end the occupation and to hold Israeli’s to account for violations of international laws. The international community have responsibilities in ensuring that the occupying power abides by international law and ends the violations faced by Palestinians on a daily basis.
